About One Earth Solar Farm
One Earth would use ground-mounted solar photovoltaic (PV) panels to generate electricity from the sun. The project includes a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) to improve the efficiency of the solar panels by storing the solar energy and releasing it to the grid when it is needed most.
In addition to the technical components, the project includes areas set aside for wildlife and landscaping, as shown in the detailed masterplan to the right.
Project Partners
One Earth Solar Farm is being co-developed by Perigus Energy and PS Renewables.
Perigus Energy (formerly Orsted) looks to support the UK and Europe’s energy security and transition by developing, building and operating onshore wind, solar and battery storage projects in Ireland, Germany, the UK and Spain. Across Great Britain, the Perigus Energy team operates 82.4 MW of wind and storage assets with offices in Edinburgh and London and a development pipeline of over 1.5 GW covering wind and solar energy.
Established in 2012, PS Renewables has rapidly become one of the UK’s largest renewable energy development and construction companies. Alongside an existing solar farm portfolio totalling over 300MW, it is one of the UK’s largest developers of solar Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs) – including Longfield Solar Farm, which received development consent in 2023.
Planning Process
One Earth is a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP), because it would produce more than 100MW of energy. The Planning Act 2008 sets out the planning process for NSIPs and requires that we apply for a Development Consent Order (DCO) to build, operate and decommission One Earth.
Unlike planning applications which are determined by local authorities, NSIPs are submitted to and decided at the national level. We submitted our DCO application to the Planning Inspectorate, an independent body that administers the process of reviewing and examining the DCO application on behalf of the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero. An Examining Authority was appointed to review and examine the DCO application from July 2025 – January 2026, before the Secretary of State granted development consent in July 2026.
Benefits

One Earth would produce up to 740 MW of clean, renewable energy, enough to power more than 200,000 homes. It would make a significant contribution to national energy targets in order to help reduce energy costs, increase energy security, and help in the fight against climate change.
We have committed to ensure that there are also local benefits from the development. This includes jobs and skills training, as well as a dedicated community benefit fund. We have already launched a community benefit fund of £10,000 per year for five years, prior to the project becoming operational. Visit ForeverNotts for more information on this initial Community Benefit Fund. We will continue to engage with local communities on the structure of the operational fund.
